A Corporate Culture of Wellness

At MC Corporate Wellness, we know that a Corporate Culture of Wellness is more than a catch-phrase, it’s an opportunity. In today’s highly competitive environment, forward-thinking businesses need to look beyond the basics of acquiring and retaining talent. They need to find holistic solutions that improve productivity while reducing costs and increasing employee engagement.

Onsite fitness is one of those solutions.

Fitness is linked to much more than just a healthy heart and strong muscles. Regular fitness also leads to improved mental, emotional, and social health. Employees exhibit improved memory and concentration. They have higher self-esteem and confidence. Their stress levels drop. An employee who exercises regularly is more likely to be fully engaged, have more energy, and to develop tighter bonds with their coworkers.

But how does onsite fitness reduce costs?

The most direct financial benefit is through reduced absenteeism and associated health-care costs. This report from the World Health Organization (WHO) notes that worksites with active health and fitness programs reduced sick leave absenteeism by 27%. Reduced insurance claims resulted in reduced coverage costs, leading to direct savings for those companies of up to 26%.

That’s a significant savings! By incorporating onsite fitness as part of a comprehensive Corporate Culture of Wellness, companies can proactively and preemptively reduce costs. In line with this, some corporate insurance providers are now reducing rates for companies who provide onsite fitness facilities

Reducing Barriers to Access

Simply encouraging employees to get healthy, however, will only go so far. Everybody wants to be healthy, but the realities of modern life often get in the way, resulting in three barriers to accessing fitness.

The first barrier is cost. 40% of respondents to a study stated cost as a primary barrier to fitness. Companies can (and do) partner with local gyms for reduced corporate membership rates, but this merely reduces cost. Onsite fitness facilities eliminate the cost entirely. By providing free access to fitness, companies can expect a much higher utilization rate with a corresponding increase in employee health.

The second barrier is time, often an employee’s most valuable asset. Between commuting, work, and family commitments (not to mention daily chores, household management, children’s sports … the list is potentially endless), finding time to get to the gym can be a bridge too far. But there’s no need to travel to the gym with an onsite fitness program. Fitness becomes easy when employees can join an exercise class mere steps away from their office.

The third barrier to accessing fitness is knowledge. If you haven’t spent a lot of time in the gym, it can all be a bit intimidating. This is where an onsite instructor makes all the difference. An instructor can meet the employees where they are, at any level of fitness, and help them build and maintain sustainable fitness.

That is what MC Corporate Wellness does. We provide onsite fitness classes to help you build a Corporate Culture of Wellness.
